May:  Mango!

Mango:

He’s as orange of a cat as they get. He’s almost 2 years old and very much the epitome of the baby of the family. He takes that role very seriously by learning a bad habit from each of his older siblings. He loves to beg for treats and wet food. Anything from trash to important documents count as toys in his mind. He loves to sleep on top of me. He makes sure to find the comfiest spot on my back to take his frequent cat naps. He loves to both terrorize and cuddle his fur siblings. 🩷

He’s a unique little guy, medically speaking. What I thought was just an affinity for playing with water, turned out to be a very rare medical condition. Through the hard work of Dr. Goodman and our technicians, we were able to find the root cause of his polydipsia (excessive thirst) and subsequent polyuria (excessive urination). He has Diabetes Insipidus- a condition that involves the kidneys rather than the organ that most associate with diabetes, the pancreas. His kidneys are unable to concentrate his urine properly due to a lack of anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). Thankfully, there is a treatment! He gets a drop of desmopressin into his eyes twice daily. He is one of very few cases I’ve been able to find of Diabetes Insipidus in cats.

I’m so grateful to our amazing team of doctors and technicians that helped to figure out what was wrong with my sweet baby.
