Pet of the Month

At 14 years old, Mizuno is a curious and adventurous Main Coon mix with a dog-like personality that keeps his family on their toes.  Whether he’s walking beside his Mom like a well-trained pup or tapping your leg to get your attention (he’s got important business to discuss!), Mizuno is always by his Mom’s side and is truly a cat with a mission.

 

Mizuno’s life has had some twists! He started in a non-Japanese home, where he was given a Japanese name “Mizuno,” meaning “fields of water.” By chance, he was later adopted into a Japanese household, where he picked up Japanese commands for “here,” “up,” and “high five” . Mizuno has traveled and lived in Cleveland, Detroit, and now Austin with his current family, and continues to thrive in a Japanese household. Along the way, he’s been loved by many—including his niece and nephew, who call him “Precious.” 

 

When he’s not out on his walks or playing with puzzles or his other toys, Mizuno loves napping, being with his family, and of course, getting plenty of pets and cuddles. He’s also incredibly curious and investigative, always checking out any new items or changes in his environment. If something gets moved or added, Mizuno is the first to notice and investigate!  He especially loves to open up cabinets and drawers.

 

In the past year and a half, Mizuno has faced some serious health challenges, including complications from IBD/lymphoma, diabetes, and kidney disease, but he’s a true fighter! After two miraculous recoveries, regular care at home, and vet visits, he’s now doing well and continues to enjoy his adventures, naps, and quality time with his loved ones.
